Machine Safety (ISO 13849)
Along with its TÜV certification, ECN Automation develops machine safety projects such as palletizers, de-palletizers, fillers, washers, conveyors, among others; delivering reliable projects that comply with all requirements according to regulations and norms needed according to risk analysis of each machine.
Scope
Applications
Safety Project involving installation of interlock perimeter guards and light curtains with controllers and instrumentation in accordance to ISO 13849.
Example of instalation of light curtains and interlocks
Machine safety norms
Safety standards hierarchy
Safety standards are structured systematically and hierarchically, to exclude different requirements for comparable hazards or similar risks or to avoid recurrence.
Safety Standard Type A
Fundamental standards related to guides and general safety aspects, referred to all machinery in the same or a similar way e.g. risk assessment.
Safety Standard Type B1
Group of standards related general safety aspects (e.g. safe distance, electrical safety, subjection/approximation speed).
Safety Standard Type B2
Group of standards related to special protection devices that can be used with machinery (e.g. shutdown devices, mesh lights, two-hand control devices).
Safety Standard Type C
Group of standards of an specific industry that set definite requirements and safety measures.
Definitions ISO 12100:2010
Risk assessment
Global process that includes a risk analysis and evaluation, typically based on team effort.
Adequate risk reduction
Risk reduction based on the safety norm rather than technology application criteria.
Evaluation and risk reduction strategy (ISO12100)
Machine features and limitations
The goal of this step is to have a clear description of:
Functions of the machine (based on the machine)
Machinery can be described in terms of its different parts, mechanisms or functions based on its manufacturing such as:
The use of machinery can be described in terms of the associated tasks with its intended use and the reasonably foreseeable misuse of the machine.
